This is EarlyText, an OiS mod that replaces the in-game font. First, this is what it looks like in action:
EarlyText addresses the things I liked least about the stock glyphs: Lots of characters have sections thicker than they need to be, and it just felt… pointier than I’d like. I’ve also made sure that all of the lower case characters are the same height, and where possible letters that should look similar do.
All alphanumerics have been hand-drawn, based on fonts popular on small graphical LCDs. Most symbols that I actually recognise as being used in-game have been tweaked slightly (the battery icon is a squatter shape that looks more like the battery symbols elsewhere, play/pause/seek buttons in the music player are larger, simpler “pie graph” icons). It still uses the same 5x7 pixel aspect as the stock font, and uses a 1-bit texture, with no attempt at anti-aliasing characters.

To use, extract in your mods folder.
Note that the game has a couple of little quirks, with one or two screens seemingly hard-coding texture offsets instead of using the correct ones from the included property list. The only place I know this is a problem is in the docking terminals in stations, the cursor in those will incorrectly render as a hatched square instead of the underline used elsewhere. If you see any other weirdness, please to let me know.
