On my ship, when I get a screen to a certain state, then move away from it to another screen, and return, the first screen has forgotten its state.
This is not the case in a station! For example I can go to a Contract/License screen and click to display the details of a certain contract. I can go to the trading screen and check the price of a commodity, go down the hall to the mechanic and look at that screen, and come back to Contracts and it is still displaying that contract. This is good!
Not so onboard my ship, esp. the Comms screen. Say I open the message about hot keys in the Nav screen. So I flit off to the helm and look at the Nav screen and come back to Comms – the mail is not open and I have to type MAIL and select the message to resume reading.
Here’s another Comms state amnesia: in the MAIL display, use down-arrow to select a message, hit ENTER to view it. Hit ENTER to close the message: the selection * is now back to the top of the list of messages! To see the next message, you have to hit the down arrow multiple times.
This bit of amnesia is especially annoying if – having read the message – you want to delete it. You close it and thoughtlessly hit DEL – ooops, you just deleted the first message in the queue, not the one you were just now viewing.
