Sure, it’s out of date. It isn’t ‘street legal’. But that’s just all the more reason to let it be used. It has a jump drive, after all, so it won’t be hard for the player to get to less-populated areas. It could be the perfect ship to use if you want to be an outlaw.
- Have it start with a damaged RCS so it fits with the starting situation of spinning out of control.
- Start the player with a few extra spare parts, but not the parts needed to repair the RCS. This lets the player sell old parts to get enough money to repair the RCS. Alternately, the ship could have some cargo on it from the original voyage that they could sell.
- Let the now out-of-date modules perform more poorly than standard modules, but have them emit less so the ship is harder to detect/easier to use for stealth runs.
- Let the ship be comparable to other ships currently in-game, but only after significant upgrades that bring it up to speed. Perhaps even give it a path to becoming ‘legal’ to fly, once necessary changes are made.
Currently you can’t request permission to undock with this ship, which is fine. Using this ship would be an immediate acknowledgement of your choice to be an outlaw.
