Yeah definitely, I do enjoy that part of the game. It can be kind of cool trying to scrape together parts to make a module functional while in-flight, etc. I think I may just be buying poor/unreliable components. Every docking operation for me includes a trip to the component terminal. I just wish I had more insight into what is perhaps causing these components to fail other than just being in flight a certain amount of time. My last outing was particularly frustrating as my navcom broke on two separate occasions, which can be paralyzing with the screen flicker. Two of my three batteries, reactor, and comms were all damaged but I had not incurred any due to asteroids, nebulae, etc.
But some of the info on components doesn’t always seem to line up. For example, sometimes a component will have a state value that is lower than 100% - max. damage but its containing module still says “fully functional”. On other occasions I will remove a component with a state lower than 100% - max. damage that IS causing the module to list as “damaged”, only for said component to show as “undamaged” in the buy/sell terminal. I guess this could either be buggy or just my lack of understanding.
Which brings up another question: why do damaged components have any value? I assume they can’t be repaired (by the player). Maybe the sell value is just their value as scrap?
